Todd Boehly has a German Origin, he first attended Landon school in Bethesda, Maryland and he graduated in 1991. He participated in wrestling while in school and he was part of the team  that won the interstate Athletic Championship in 1990 and 1991. He then proceeded to the College of William and Mary and he earned B.B.A in finance when he graduated in 1996. He later attended London school of economics.

New Chelsea Owner Todd  Boehly is married to Katie Boehly and they have three children. Todd Boehly and his wife are both philantropist and they are giving back to the community. He funded the Boehly Center for Excellence in Finance at William & Mary's Raymond A. Mason School of Business in 2014 along with his wife Katie Boehly through a multi year gift. He and his wife Katie Boehly also committed funds to the construction of a new athletic complex and sports performance center at the William and Mary. They were also honorary co chairs of a $55 million campaign to fund the school's Athletics in 2021.

Todd Boehly first wanted to buy Chelsea football club in 2019 through a $3 billion takeover but was rejected by Roman Abramovich. However he and Mark Walter later acquired  27% stake in the Los Angeles Lakers together after they bought Philip Anschutz shares in July 2021.American NBA team Los Angeles Lakers is ranked as the third highest valued team in the NBA, and it's estimated value is $5.14 billion.

A group led by Todd Boehly led group reached a $5 billion agreement to buy buy English football team Chelsea fc from Russian owner Roman Abramovich in 2022. Boehly's group includes Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss, British property investor Jonathan Goldstein, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter among other investors. 

Although Todd Boehly and his comrades have been seen around Stamford bridge (Chelsea Stadium) , he has received a warm welcome by the fans. However the deal is currently awaiting approval from the UK government.
